Dechenphug is well known spiritual place revered as the deity house of Genyen Dorji Dradul which is also known as Genyen Jagpa Milen or simply the Ap Genyen within Bhutan. The name Thimphu has its relation to this palce and the deity. Gyenyen was said to have dissolved (thim) himself into the rock that lie in front of the deity house till today after he appeared in person to the Jamyang Kuenga Singye of Druk Ralung when he visited the place in 1345 . Therefore the place was known as Thimphu, which means 'Thim'-dissolve and 'Phug'-the rock knob.
